Kathmandu - Lhasa by Flight (3650m)

  • Transfer to airport for flight to Lhasa. Upon arrival at Gonggar Airport, Lhasa the group shall meet our representative who will escort the group to the pre-booked hotel in Lhasa.
  • It will take about 1.3 hours for the group to reach the hotel. Check in hotel and take rest for acclimatisation.
  • You will experience mild symptoms of the altitude sicknesssuch as headache, dizziness, disorientation, breathlessness etc. but it should go away in a day or two. Please, drink plenty of water and consume liquid food. Spend the first day free to acclimatize with the altitude as Lhasa city stands at 3650m.

In Lhasa

  • In the morning, pay a visit to the holiest temple in Tibet, the Jokhang Temple, built during SongtsenGonpo’s reign by princess Wencheng of Tang Dynasty, 647 A.D, and its famous Barkhor Kora.
  • Jokhang Temple has undergone massive additions and reconstructions since the 7th century and particularly during the reign of 5th Dalai Lama in the 17th century. The Jokhang is the most celebrated temple in Tibet. Because the temple is not controlled by a particular sect of Tibetan Buddhism it attracts adherents of all the sects as well as followers of Bon-Po, Tibet’s indigenous religion.
  • Barkhor Street, the center of the old Lhasa, Barkhor is a circular street, which is the oldest street in Lhasa and remains very traditional. It is a place where Tibetan culture, economy, religion and arts assemble and a place to which a visit must be paid. Barkhor is the road which pilgrims tramped out around Jokhang Temple through centuries. Buddhist pilgrims walk or progress by body-lengths along the street clockwise every day into deep night.
  • Sera Monastery: Sera Monastery was established in 1419. Number of Buddhist saints (Lama) are staying there and chanting of mantras. Sera is one of thebiggest Monastery among Tibet and a worth seeing place to visit.

In Lhasa

  • Today, we have a full day to explore the highlights of Lhasa. We begin the day from Dalai Lama’s Potala Palace-the principal attraction of Lhasa, which was residence and powercentreof Tibet, formerly the winter residence of the Dalai Lama.
  • This majestic palace seems to grow out of the rocks into the crisp dry air above. Built in the 17th century, it contains hundreds of rooms, labyrinthine corridors, and lavish decorations provide insight into the glory that was the Tibetan kingdom. Visit the White and Red Palaces, containing the Dalai Lama’s former living quarters, the Great West Hall, and the splendid West Chapel. See the eight gold Stupas, which were the tombs of the Dalai Lamas. From here, we head to
  • Norbulingkha Gardens to see the summer palaces of the Dalai Lama. Of all the palaces, current Dalai Lama, the 14th’s palace is the major attraction. We visit his private chambers and audience hall.

Lhasa - Gyantse town. (260km/5-6hrs drive) - Shigatse (3900m) (90km/1.3hrs drive)

  • Today, we drive to Gyantse town which still maintains Tibetan characteristics. The journey involves crossing of two high passes Gamba La (4794m) and Karo La (5045m) and the follows the bank of Yamdrok Tso Lake. Yamdrok Tso Lake is one of the four holiest lakes of Tibet and has turquoise green water. As we leave the lake shore behind, the road climbs to Karo La (5045m), once again offering breathtaking views of the mountain and vast Tibetan plateau.
  • We arrive at Gyantse town in the afternoon, perhaps the only major town in Central Tibet which has been able to maintain its Tibetan characteristics. Upon arrival, pay a visit to the Pelkor Chode andKumbum Stupa-the main highlights of Gyantse City. From Gyantse, it is less than 2 hrs drive to Shigatse, the second largest city of Tibet. Upon arrival in Shigatse, we check in hotel and rest.

Shigatse - Saga (4600m). 480 Km/7-8hrs drive approx

  • We cross two gentle mountain passes Tso-la (4500m/14760ft) and Tropu-la (4950m/16,236ft) and arrive at Lhatse town.  A few kilometres beyond Lhatse, we cross the Brahmaputra River and after the crossing, the road enters a river valley with scattered villages.
  • This is a beautiful area for photographs.
  • We continue on, past the turn-off for the northern route, and arrive at Saga, having covered 480km during the day.

Saga - Manasarovar (4560m) 450km/8-9hrs drive

  • After breakfast, drive through Paryang (4750m). Have lunch on the way. Drive through the windswept territory passing many villages and camps of Yak herders with distance view of snow capped mountains.
  • On this day the road is quite flat,hence the drive will be comfortable compared to other days. There after drive to Hor Quo (4560m). We continue driving crossing Mayum La pass (5200 m).
  • We will have the first sight (Darshan) of Holy Mt. Kailash and Holy Lake Manasarovar. We drive for Holy Lake Mansarovar Parikrama &en route view Rakshas Tal, relax and meditate at Lake Manasarovar.
  • We arrive at Chui Gompa. Overnight at Monastery Guest house (Dormitory room Simple and Basic)

Lake Manasarovar - Darchen (4560m). 45Km/1hrs drive

  • Morning Puja &Havan, and drive to Darchen. Remaining of the day, relax and preparing for the 3days trekking around theHoly Mt. Kailash.
  • Guide will arrange the yak and yak man to carry required luggage for kora around Mt. Kailash. Unneeded stuffs, we can store at hotel.

Darchen - Tarboche (8km) Trek.

  • After breakfast, drive approx. 8Km to Tarboche, the trek starting point of Kailas Parikrama where the trekking starts and we will meet with our yaks and yak man. Tarboche is also known as the outer “Asthapath”.
  • The first day of our Kora is a gradual walk with multitudes of other local pilgrims chanting andpraying. Walk up the Lha Chu Valley through beautiful green meadows and streams with Mt Kailash towering above us. We follow the river, which enters a narrow canyon with high, steep cliffs and spectacular waterfalls.
  • Continuing up the valley, the north face of Kailash comes into view before we reach the 13th century monastery at Dira-puk. For those who are feeling hard with breathing, having difficulties can choose to discontinue Parikrama, will be drive back to Darchen and wait for the Parikrama group to return.

Trek to Dolma La Pass (5630m) - ZuthulPhuk (4700m). 19km/10-11hrs walking

  • Today our Circumbulation (Kora) leads to much higher side of the holy path just beneath the Holy Mount Kailas. Bid farewell to Lha Chu Valley and prepare to fight the toughest part of the kora.
  • You will enter the Drolma Chu Valley, heading uptowards a high pass, the Drolma La [5,630m/18,466 ft] that is marked with Tibetan prayer flags. The rest of the day’s walk is mostly downhill and flat land. On descent, you will pass by one of the highest lakes in the world, ThukpeDzingbu Lake (Gauri Kunda), known as the Lake of Compassion.
  • Zuthulphuk monastery is built at the site of a famous cave, which is believed to have been created as a result of contest between Milarepa (Buddhist yogi) and NaroBonchung (Bon saint).

Trek Zuthulpuk - Darchen. (10km/3-4hrs trek)

  • It takes merely 3-4 hours that involves crossing of several streams and follows an impressive gorge from where you can look back for fabulous Mt Kailash.

  • Upon arrival in Lhasa, check in and balance of day is free on your own too pursue your interest. It takes 5hours driving from Shigatse to Lhasa.
